Learn about Morganite

morganite.jpgA lush pink variety of Beryl that can range from a warm peach tone to a cool violet-pink, Morganite was originally discovered right here in California and named by the then-gem-buyer at Tiffany & Co. after his most important customer, tycoon J.P. Morgan. This gem is now also mined in Brazil, Afghanistan, Namibia, Mozambique and Russia. Although a fairly rare gem, rather large samples of Morganite can still be found, probably because it is a relatively new stone on the gem scene and hasn’t yet been depleted by buyers. The most sought-after Morganite, as far as collectors are concerned, comes from one of the first deposits discovered— in Madagascar.
